In this message from Powerhouse Church in American Falls, Idaho, we begin our biblical financial freedom series by addressing a reality many Christians quietly carry: the burden of debt.
Proverbs 22:7 says, “The borrower is servant to the lender,” and this sermon unpacks what that truly means for our spiritual, emotional, and financial lives. With over 70% of Americans identifying money as their greatest stressor, it’s clear that financial pressure is real—but normal doesn’t mean healthy. This message is not about shame or pressure; it’s about freedom.
We explore how debt can become a master, how an ownership mindset leads to financial bondage, and how Scripture calls us to live as stewards, not owners, remembering that “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1). Looking at the teachings of Jesus and the generosity of the early church in Acts 2, we’re challenged to see money as a tool for Kingdom impact rather than a source of stress. If your money is owned, your future is limited—but when God owns it, peace, purpose, and generosity follow.
